Both Nanosfun members successfully defended their Master’s and Bachelor’s theses, showcasing the group’s commitment to training the next generation of researchers in bioinspired materials.

The nanosfun group is delighted to celebrate two academic milestones that closed the 2025–2026 academic year at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

On June 30, 2026, Alejandro Gracia successfully defended his Master’s Thesis (TFM) as part of the Master’s in Advanced Nanoscience and Nanotechnology programme. His thesis, entitled “Synthesis, characterisation, and biological evaluation of catechol-based free-standing films as tunable 2D platforms for biomedical applications”, explored the development and characterisation of self-supporting polyphenolic membranes inspired by mussel adhesion chemistry, evaluating their potential as versatile platforms for biomedical use.

On the other hand, on July 7, 2026, Nikole Moscoso defended her Bachelor’s Thesis (TFG) within the Degree in Chemistry at the UAB. Her thesis, entitled “Synthesis, Optimization, and Characterization of Bioinspired Polyphenol-based Hydrogels”, focused on the development of hydrogel systems based on polyphenolic compounds, optimising their formulation and characterising their physicochemical properties for potential biomedical and environmental applications.

Both projects are deeply rooted in the Nanosfun group’s core research lines on bioinspired catechol-amine functional materials, and were co-supervised by our Senior Researcher Dr. Salvio Suárez-García and our Postdoctoral Researcher Dr. José Bolaños-Cardet, reflecting the Nanosfun group’s commitment to rigorous training of the next generation of researchers. Both Alejandro and Nikole delivered outstanding defences, receiving excellent feedback from their respective examination committees.

We congratulate Alejandro and Nikole on their outstanding work and wish them the very best in the next stages of their careers!
