The selected applicant will become part of the PID2024-161159OB-I00 research team. In close collaboration with the principal investigator and the rest of the research team, the selected candidate will: develop a doctoral thesis on a topic related to the project, assist in the development of the research project, present and publish research findings, and help organize and participate in project conferences and seminars. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a pioneering and highly interdisciplinary initiative focused on the development of an innovative localized treatment for glioblastoma (GB). The successful candidate will become a fundamental member of our collaborative team, working closely with Professor Victor J. Yuste (INc-UAB), an expert in cell death and neurodegenerative diseases, and Dr. Salvio Suárez-García (Nanosfun-ICN2), a specialist in bioinspired materials and nanotechnology. The position will involve hands-on work in all key stages of the project, from material synthesis to biological validation.
The BioMem4GB project is a pioneering initiative that seeks to innovate in the treatment of glioblastoma (GB), a very aggressive brain cancer. Our solution consists of developing bioinspired polyphenolic membranes that would be placed directly in the surgical bed after tumor removal. These membranes have a dual function: to combat tumor recurrence by selectively generating reactive oxygen species to eliminate residual cancerous cells, and at the same time, to act as a platform to promote the regeneration of healthy brain tissue. This approach combines materials science, biology, and medicine to offer a localized and more effective solution that overcomes the limitations of current treatments. Furthermore, our technology opens up a wide range of biomedical applications that will be explored.
