Xinyuan He and Oriol Mundet achieve academic milestones defending their TFM on nanostructured materials for biomedical applications at the UB

Both Nanosfun members successfully defended their Master’s theses at the Universitat de Barcelona as part of the Master’s in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, supervised by members of the Nanosfun group.

The nanosfun group is delighted to celebrate two more academic milestones on July 9, 2026, with the successful defence of two Master’s Theses (TFM) at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), both within the Master’s in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology programme.

On the one hand, Xinyuan He defended her thesis entitled “Development of Dopamine-Loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers for Intranasal Parkinson’s Disease Therapy”, exploring the design and characterisation of nanostructured lipid carriers as vehicles for the intranasal delivery of dopamine, a promising strategy to bypass the blood-brain barrier and reach the central nervous system directly, with significant potential for Parkinson’s disease therapy. Her work was supervised by Our Senior Researcher Dr. Claudio Roscini, our Group Leader Prof. Daniel Ruiz-Molina, and our PhD Student Noel Muñoz.

On the other hand, Oriol Mundet López defended his thesis entitled “Switchable Fluorescence/Singlet Oxygen Generation in BODIPY-loaded Phase Change Nanoparticles”, investigating the development of phase change nanoparticles loaded with BODIPY dyes capable of switching between fluorescence emission and singlet oxygen generation, a dual-functionality platform with potential applications in bioimaging and photodynamic therapy. His work was supervised by our Senior Researcher Dr. Claudio Roscini and our PhD Student Núria Basanta.

Both theses are excellent examples of the Nanosfun group’s capacity to generate innovative student research projects at the intersection of nanomaterials science and biomedicine. Both Xinyuan and Oriol delivered outstanding defences, receiving excellent feedback from their examination committees.

We congratulate them warmly and wish them the very best in the next steps of their careers!
