The first collision grounds of frontier materials and UN sustainable development goals
Barcelona is holding during 16-18 November the PUZZLE XTM event, which is the first convening forum to bridge the world of Frontier Materials, societal impact, entrepreneurship, venture building, corporate innovation, bleeding edge of material science and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to facilitate the use the materials of the future to help our world today.
Futurechromes, our Spin-Off about photochromic films able to adapt themselves immediately to different sunlight intensities, is participating in this event through the BIST stand at the event. Dr. Claudio Roscini and Aleix Carrascull are showing how the technology developed by Futurechromes will impact the production of smart and efficient windows. Besides, Dr. Àlex Julià-López is showing the latest technologies for enhancing anticounterfeiting. All of them, are actively participating to show the assistants the latest technologies developed in the Spin-Off and in the Nanosfun group. Besides, other members of the group and our group leader Prof. Daniel Ruiz-Molina are assisting the event, taking advantage of the great entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Each year PUZZLE X focus on 4 “Missions” and global goals from the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability. Countries have committed to prioritize progress for those who’re furthest behind. The creativity, knowhow, technology and financial resources from all of society is necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.
Aligning corporations, scientific communities, governments and civil society is the key to achieving humanity’s global goals. This year the selected goals are:
Goal 1: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
Goal 2: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Goal 3: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Goal 4: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
Supported by the Government of Spain, Generalitat of Catalonia and Barcelona City Hall, PUZZLE X is the first global initiative, event, entrepreneurial and venture hub and the collision grounds of ideas, innovation and solutions for Frontier Materials Deep Tech. The first event and ecosystem generator aim to go beyond Science for the sake of science, science for the sake of commercialization and focus on material science Deep Tech for the sake of societal impact.
